Wishing Well 04:52
She looks so overdressed, I wish she'd go with less, but I guess I'll hold my breath, wouldn't want to overstep her superficial crew and what they think is cool, I'm less impressed by what she did than what she didn't do All the things that I wish she was All the things that I wish she was could never be reality All the things that I wish she was All the things that I wish she was crashing down on me I wish that I could be fine without the help of a Wishing Well without the help of a Wishing Well Ive got a penny right here in my pocket I'm on the ledge and I'm ready to toss it When she got up to dance, looked around to find my hand, I was hiding at the bar, because I'm not a fan Out of touch- Out of place- working on my poker face wishing I could float away high above the whole charade: Redundant music bumping fist-pumping-dudes out hunting for something new to touch, and It's all just too digusting I want a girl who likes whiskey on Thursday night, chugging Natty Light with an appetite All the things that I wish she was All the things that I wish she was Crashing down on me I wish that I could be fine

The first stage is shock rage would come next a security guard waits at my desk with a cardboard box and my last paycheck I feel his eyes on me, watching my every step and the rest of the office is silent people trying to hold back thoughts of violence, because they've got boxes too (well most of us do because we're not the fortunate few, who figured they might last by kissing the right ass the minute you walk passed they stick in the knife fast and slip away like rats under subway tracks as last week's stars become Monday's trash On the mundane path it's survival of the fittest, right? They pick and choose and tell you it's strictly business, right? you're left to wonder what it's all been for-- well that's life in the revolving door. All I meant to you is suddenly so clear and all I ever wanted to do is prove that I was here Now, they throw me out into the cold and it's out with the old. Katie always thought she was playing it right She never missed a day in her life and stayed late every night but what did Katie get for paying the price? An empty handshake to be nice. Now, Bill is 58 he's been here from the gate now he's putting all his things into a crate while a young fresh face waits to take his place but nah, they don't discriminate based on age and then there's Fred....they just fired him 40 years to the day they hired him and not to mention the bank lost the pension- nothing waiting for him as he faces retirement It's a shady environment, not a place for the noble some: they go quietly, some: they go postal Now Fred's back and he's armed for war-- well that's life in the Revolving Door. All I meant to you is suddenly so clear and all I ever wanted to do is prove that I was here Now, they throw me out into the cold and it's out with the old. No champagne popped or brand name watch for the years you devoted to the man on the top floor. You get a box marked "anonymous" and drowning in a sea of false promises you see it's all politics. Our leaders need a better way to treat us instead they leave us praying on a better day to greet us. Every day people beaten down to submission by a system orchestrated from the ground to deceive us. Look what they feed us: a little bit of rope just enough reason to hope until we're beaten and broke-down too blind to see through the smoke until that morning when they need us to go. And as they break out the ax my boss gives me a pat as if sympathy can bring my dignity back but there's no victory laps here one call and your-- escorted out the revolving door. All I meant to you is suddenly so clear and all I ever wanted to do is prove that I was here Now, they throw me out into the cold and it's out with the old.

Can I get some more? Just a little bit to pick me up before the lights go down. I've been here way too long in the thick of it. My hand is out. Just this once. My hand is out. Fitting into place like figures painted gold. Here I play the paper keys better than most that I know of And it's only been an hour or so. My feet are warm in the cold bitter sun like nothing else could ever hurt. Dirty bookshelves and torn sweaters fall out of reach. And it's only been an hour So can I get some more? Just a little bit to pick me up before the lights go down I've been here way too long in the thick of it. My hand is out. Just this once. My hand is out.
